8th Grade Math
Pinterest
We created a Pinterest about our life, we created 7 boards with 5 pins about ourself. Doing this activity I learned more about myself and how much art we will do in iDream. It is interesting how we used some part of technology to make this mini project fun. Would you enjoy doing this? Why or why not? This connects to the app Pinterest which many people use today to find and look at stuff they like.
Mathography
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1379707345.png)
This is my Mathography, we had to write about math and some of our interests. We also had to create a picture of what we thought of when we heard the word math. I learned more about myself and how much I understood in math. I found it interesting how our teacher tied in art with this writing. This connects to previous lessons and our feelings about math.
Graphing Linear Equations Using Tables
This was one of the first math lessons I learned this year. We took notes off a slideshow, then from those notes I solved four problems. With those problems I graphed the points, and drew this cat. I learned how to graph and solve problems using a table. I never knew you could use a tee charts to graph points and i thought that was interesting. Do you think that this lesson was easy or hard, explain? I connect to this because of my previous year i learned how to plot points.
Manipulating Equations
We took notes off a video and changed equations into function form, with those equations we did the tables again. i learned ho to change standard form equations to function form. I thought it was interesting how easy changing equations was. Would you ever want this flag to be our country flag? This connects to our previous lesson because that is the second step to manipulating equations.
Algebra Project with Kendra Zeller
Kendra Zeller and I did an algebra project together. We made funfetti cupcakes and used them as the points on our board. We learned many new concepts and and put them in action. We had to solve some problems and graph them. It was interesting how we tied in math with baking. If you change the slope of the cupcakes, how would it change the equation? This connects to many concepts and it also connects to baking many yummy desserts.
Engineering Project
This is our engineering project on the white house. We used all subjects for this project! We made a scale model of the White House and solved many problems, and answered many questions. I learned many interesting facts about the White House and all of the measurements involved. Its interesting how in this group we put all of our ideas together to make one amazing turnout. How do you think we tied this in with science? This connects to the White House in D.C because we tried to make the exact replica.
Concert Modeling Linear Equations
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/3843443.jpg?269)
During this lesson we took notes , then we solve some problems, and then chose a singer to have a concert for and we made some equations and plugged in some numbers of guest. I learned how to model with linear equations. I find interesting that we use the slope formula for this too! My question for this lesson was: Will we always graph our equations? This connects to our world because we can use this formula to solve for prices in our world.
Horizontal and Vertical Lines
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/5708328.jpg)
We watched a video and took notes, with those notes we wrote our name and three things that represent us with only vertical and horizontal lines. With all those lines we had to find where they hit the X and Y axis. I learned how to figure out the axis for horizontal and vertical lines. I thought it was interesting because we got to draw and do math at the same time. Does undefined mean 0? This connects to me because its about me and has my name tied in.
Intercepts Activity
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1384056393.png)
During this lesson we solved intercept equations and then made our perfect house floor plan. We learned how to find the X and Y intercepts. I find it interesting that in order to solve for X you plug in a zero for Y and the opposite when your trying to find Y. My question was about the video that we had to take notes on. It connects to previous lessons about using tables for graphs and equations.
Integers
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1384057121.png)
We had to teach our parents about integers and then we made a worksheet with problems for them to solve. This is my lesson plan! I learned the daily life of a teacher and how they set up a lesson. It was interesting to be on the other end of teaching and basically being in charge. Wouldn't you like to be on the other end? This connects to learning many steps of integers and knowing positives and negatives.
Slope Activity
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1384057236.png)
We took notes and then created a ski resort. With the ski resort we found the slope of all the different lines. During this activity I learned how to find the slope of a line. I found it interesting how using graph paper to find slope, all you need to know is how to count the boxes. My question was: Which way is positive and which is negative? Now that I have learned more, I know the answer. This connects to people skiing and knowing how steep the slope is, that you may or may not go on.
Haunted House
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1974981.jpg)
We took notes and created a haunted house and found the slope of 20 lines. During this lesson I learned how to find the slope of horizontal and vertical lines. I thought it was interesting that you didn't even need to solve the problem because you knew the answer. My question was: Will the answer always end up undefined or zero? The teachers response was "Yes." This also connects to finding the slope of a line/angle.
Parallel Lines Logo
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1391186413.png)
We took notes, and drew a logo using four parallel and four perpendicular lines. Then we found the equations of each pair of lines. We learned how to do parallel and perpendicular lines, and how to find the slope and equations. It was interesting how we created a fun logo using only parallel and perpendicular lines. Would you enjoy this activity? This connects to slope intercept form, and knowing how to plug in you y-axis and slope.
Winter Scene
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1391186617.png)
We created a winter scene with five pair of lines and found the point of intersection with systems. We learned how to do eliminations and substitution. Its interesting how we tied this math activity in with the Holidays. How would you like to be a part of a class where you have fun an do math. This connects to finding the point of intersection using graphs.
Christmas with Systems
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1391186747.png)
We took notes and solved 8 problems. Then we created something we wanted for Christmas and found the solution. We learned how to do special types of systems. Its in interesting how we tied in math with the Holidays! Did you know that their are three different ways your answer could come out as? This connects to graphing linear equations and solving for point of interesection.
Stain Glass Image
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1391186825.png)
We took notes, solved problems and then created a glass image. We learned how to graph linear inequalities and shade them. Its interesting how easy it is to solve these and how fun it is! What image would you have created? This connects to solving simple linear inequalities and knowing how to graph simple equations.
Skyscraper
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1401837985.png)
This is my skyscraper that I created in math, where we applied binomials to each box. We had to have 20 boxes, therefore 20 problems. I learned how to distribute 2 binomials into a quadratic equation. It is interesting how we used art to make this activity fun. Would you enjoy combining these two subjects to make this activity fun? This relates to me because this really helped me understand this concept better and showed me a clear example.
Stained Glass Image
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/2874199.jpeg)
We created a stained glass image and applied math to the image. Some things I learned were applying slope to lines already drawn and finding the linear equation. After I had these equations, I found point of intersection of some lines. It is interesting how we applied all the subjects into this project such as art, math, social studies and science. Do you think this is a fun way to do a project? This connects to me because I have used all of these methods in school and will continue to use them in high school.
Math & Me Project
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/1401838519.png)
This was an end of a quarter project to show what we have learned. We chose eight concepts, explained them and gave an example of how it relates to our life. I learned a ton of concepts like quadratics, linear inequalities, square roots and more. This was interesting because it was another art thing that had to do with math. Have you ever done a project about that is like this one? This connects to me because this project was all about my life and how I use/see these concepts around me.
Quadratics
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/5733337.jpeg)
This is my quadratics St. Patrick's Day activity. I am sharing this because this was very fun to do. I learned how to graph quadratics using an equation. It was interesting how we tied in this holiday into creating a rainbow for this holiday. If you were to become a teacher, would you give your students something fun for the holidays? This connects to me because I use sad and happy face expressions a lot and that's the shape of a quadratic when you graph it.
