Final Writing Project(in progress)
*This is my final writing project, and I have chosen to write a novel about bullying. I learned that once you start writing, the rest becomes natural. It is interesting when writing a novel, you can make it end however you want. How would you end your novel about bullying? This connects to me because I watched a video that inspired me to stop bullying and find a in between. Chapter 1: “Introducing Emma’s Life”
“Mom, I don’t know what to wear today,” Emma shouted.
“Sweetie, wear what you are comfortable in and do not let others try to control you,” her mom responded.
Emma Stevens is an insecure girl who lets others treat her unfair. Although she may not be like them, she just wants to fit in.
In the car, Emma was sitting with her earphones in and looking out the window. It was a rainy day in the state of Colorado, the trees were blowing and the clouds were rolling. Mrs. Stevens could tell her daughter had something that was upsetting her. As Mrs. Stevens approached Emma, she started crying.
"Mom, you would never understand what I’m going though.”
“You need to tell me what is wrong and I can help you.”
“I can’t because they will do something to me.”
“Who?”
“These GIRLS! You just need to stay out of it.”
Emma placed the earphones back in her ears and started to cry again. Although Mrs. Stevens felt bad, she had to let her daughter deal with it.
As Emma got to school she ran quickly as if a cheetah was chasing her. She went straight to the bathroom and locked herself in the stall. She heard the door creak open and saw the “shoes of doom,” these shoes belonged to the bully Brooke. As she pushed open every stall, Emma crawled up in a ball. She finally got to the last stall where Emma sat shivering and the room was silent. The door was slammed open and Emma looked up,
“Hey little nerd, like that shirt, did you get it from the thrift store?” Brooke said.
“Yea, you look like you just rolled out of bed,” her clique replied.
They just tore Emma up, calling her names and making fun of her looks. Of course this is the day Emma tried, but she felt it was no use. She got this thought in her mind, “EMMA STEVENS, YOU WILL NEVER FIT IN!” As the girls left the bathroom Emma sat there crying. Leaving the bathroom was like entering a jungle with a bunch of predators. She ran outside and Brooke and her clique were giggling as she passed.
“Ring, ring!”
The first bell rang and everybody ran to class. Soon the teachers began attendance.
“Say here when I call your name,” Mrs Peterson said. “Emma?”
The room was silent and nobody responded. Brooke looked at her clique and they all giggled. Then she raised her hand.
“I think she wasn’t feeling good, at least thats what she told me in the bathroom. I felt really bad and thought I would tell you,” Brooke responded.
“Well I hope she is all good, its her 3rd day being absent and I’m going to have to call her parents,” said Mrs. Peterson.
Brooke and her clique looked at each other with flustered faces. Suddenly their hearts dropped and they began to feel guilty.

Turning Point Essay
We chose one of the biggest turning points of our lives and wrote an essay about them. I decided not to share mine because it was very personal and was about my religious life. Doing this essay helped me remember one the best day of my life and I learned many more details. It was interesting how this essay flowed because it was easy to write about. This connects to a very special camp that I go to " Indian Hills Camp."
9/11 Word Art
![Picture](/uploads/2/3/4/3/23434724/4487099.jpg)
In my Language Arts class we created a world cloud about the sad date 9/11. During the research, I learned and heard of many tragic scenarios and learned many new words. It was interesting how we used the website Wordle to create this art. Why do you feel the terrorists have so much hate towards the USA? This connects to the knowledge of many adjectives and interjections.
Engineering Research
Although I could not find this I am still going to tell you what we did. During engineering week we searched up an article on a website. My article was about a water park that had an airplane on top of it. I learned about how this place is in Oregon and how it was built to inspire people about the aviation. This was interesting because at first I thought they meant a water park in or on a plane, not underneath it. Would you expect the same thing? This connects to me because my brother is an engineer on planes and I love water parks.
Persuasive Essay on Cheer is a Sport
How would you feel if someone told you, that what you work so hard at, and what you love to do is not a sport? “...cheerleading is the fastest growing girls’ sport, yet more than half of Americans do not believe it is a sport” (Renee R., “Cheerleading is a Sport,” par. 1). When people hear the word cheer, they automatically think a "pep squad." This is a problem because competitive cheerleaders are not considered true athletes even though they work just as hard as other “athletes.” If this is not solved, cheerleaders will continue to get fired up when others say cheer is not a sport. Competitive cheerleading is a sport because it fits all the requirements for a sport, you have to be committed to it, and cheer gets acknowledged by ESPN on television.
Competitive cheer fits all the requirements to be considered a sport. As the Women’s Sport Foundation states that a sport must be physical activity, must be competitive, and governed by rules (Nicole Lauchaire, “Being A Cheerleader,” par. 3). So far everything checks out, for example stunting and tumbling is very physical and is an activity. Cheerleaders go to competitions and compete against other teams. Competitive cheerleaders have strict rules to follow and they are judged, and get deductions for illegal skills and tricks. “Just as basketball and football have guidelines for competitive play, so does competitive cheer” (Renee R. “ Cheerleading is a Sport,” par. 4) Many people consider cheerleaders as “flirts in skirts” mainly because of pep squads. Competitive cheerleaders are very serious and really just want to win. Therefore cheer is just like any other “sport” and they work very hard.
Cheerleaders commit to this sport more than most athletes and are consistently practicing. “Cheerleading today takes strength, agility, flexibility and stamina, just like any other sport” (“The Poly Post,” 3). Cheerleaders have to balance what they love and school work between their tight schedule. Practicing 3-4 days a week and then having competitions on the weekends you must get rest and energy. You also must be committed to travel for your competitions on weekends and then you drive back to home on Sunday night just to make it to school. I think that doing this sport you must be dedicated and committed. Many people argue that all cheerleaders do is a 2 minute and 30 second routine, which is true. But the 2 minute and 30 seconds is the hardest thing to complete with the skills that you fill in. Cheer takes all this effort and commitment and still is not recognized as a true sport.
Although cheer is not considered a true sport, cheerleaders still get recognized on ESPN. As a sport, they must get acknowledged which means to receive appreciation towards the topic. Cheerleading Worlds and the USA Nationals are on the television. Although only certain levels are previewed it gives the world a little piece of competitive cheerleading. Just like football, cheer comes on television for only a certain time of the year. Some people say that it may not be advertised as big as other sports, but its still on a very popular sports channel, ESPN. Therefore, cheer does get acknowledgement just like any other “sport.”
Now that you understand how competitive cheer fits all the requirements, how committed you must be, and how cheerleaders get acknowledged, you should know that cheer is a sport. I believe that the physical activity, the hours of time they put in to cheer, and the world wide ESPN television shows that competitive cheerleader are true athletes. I support this topic so much because I have been a competitive cheerleader for 8 years, and I know how hard this sport is. So when every cheerleader gets fired up when someone tells them cheer is not a sport, help them get the other person to believe that it is a sport.

Explanatory Essay
Can you picture yourself riding a wave, standing up and smelling the beach in your face? This is what you call stand up surfing and its when you ride a wave to shore standing on a surfboard. “People who surf claim that it’s one of the best ways to experience nature.” (“Learning How to Surf,” par. 1) Surfing consists of many steps, but there are three main steps. You might want to start in white waters to practice. Surfing is done by paddling out, having perfect timing, and standing up on your board.
Paddling is laying on your board, using your arms and getting the wave break. “Before getting into the water, check the way the water moves others.” (“Learning How to Surf,” par. 5) Get comfortable with the board and know how you are going to stand on the board. Make sure to stay away from the current, or know how to work with the current. Also, know how you are going to stand on the board. “Finally you are to attach the leash to your back foot, which is a safety object for the ocean.” (“Learning How to Surf,” par. 8) Walk out to the water until you are about hip deep and keep your board by your side. Now you can start paddling out. Lay on your board and use your arms, just like swimming. Once you are past the wave break, now you must wait for the perfect wave to catch. Timing is the next big step to surfing.
“Catching a wave is all about timing.” (“Learning How to Surf,” par. 13) Timing is a huge part of catching a wave. You must know when to turn around and face your board toward shore. You also need to know when to start paddling again. “Watch for breaking patterns and gauge their size.” (“Learning How to Surf,” par. 13) The person closest to the breaking point gets first dibs on the wave. So get close to the breaking point ready to go and start to paddle when the wave is three feet away. You want to have the wave crash on you, not when it has already crashed. If it crashes right on you, you have set yourself up for an amazing, long ride. Now that you have caught the wave, get ready to stand up.
Without standing up, you wouldn’t be really surfing. “Standing up on a surfboard can look easy, but once you place that surfboard in moving water, it can get tricky.” (“Learn How to Surf,” par. 10) You must learn how to balance your body weight and work with the swirling water. You also need to know your a natural stance that you are comfortable in. “The next step is to get out there and try, suggested in white water.” (“Standing Up,” par. 1) First, you want to grasp each side of your board and push up quickly. Then, extend your arms up and place your knees under your body in a balanced position, slanted slightly forward. Next, place your feet shoulder width apart with one in front of the other, basically standing sideways. Finally, stand up gently and keep low for low gravity. Keep your eyes forward, towards shore, and focus on your weight in the middle of the board.
“If you never try, you’ll never know.” (“Surfer Quote,” par.1) Surfing takes the ability to know how to paddle, have perfect timing, and standing up. Paddling is moving the board and yourself out into the ocean. Timing is key to catching a wave, and knowing when to paddle again. Standing up is the only way you can truly surf, and it consists of you standing on both feet. We enjoy teaching about this topic because we became experts on it. Hopefully you have a better understanding of surfing, and now you can get out in the water and try.

* This is my explanatory essay and visual. We had to become an expert on anything and write an essay that explains it. Then we had to come up with a visual to go with it. I learned how to surf and also many other hobbies as the class presented. This interests me because I have always found surfing fun and have always wanted to try. Would you enjoy writing about any hobby? This connects to me because I now know all the steps to surfing and can teach others if they need help.
Response to Literature Essay
This is my response to literature essay, I had to choose three themes in my book. I learned many new habits and lesson while writing this essay. It was interesting the format we used, and how easy it is to understand. Will we always have to use the same format for all essays and why? This connects to my book "7 Habits" and all the themes throughout the book.

“Response to Literature Essay”
7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is a book written by Sean Covey. This educational and informational book, that teaches teens some lessons on behavior. It is called 7 Habits because of the 7 habits that are taught throughout the book. Many ideas include doing small acts of kindness and rebuilding yourself. Reading this essay will help you learn three themes of this book. Be proactive, put first things first, and seek first to understand then to be understood, are the themes that will be discussed.
Being proactive is the key to all of the themes. The author stated, "My dad wanted me to know that their are two types of people in this world, the ones who take responsibility and those who blame others." This means there are proactive and reactive people in this world. Those who are proactive always find a way to make and put everything together. Also stated on page 48, "I am the force. I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I am responsible for my happiness or unhappiness. I am the drivers seat of my own destiny, not the passenger." This is an example of a person who believes in themselves and they know their responsibility. Being proactive also means to take action and be involved in your life.
Put first things first is the next theme I spotted and loved instantly. This theme means to prioritize in life."Sure we have nice goals and good intentions, but doing them and putting them first is the hard part," said the author on page 106. We all have what we want to do and what we should do, but it's about what's more important. It's all about learning how to manage your time and where you put your effort in. These are some steps that are given from pages 113-115, step one is to identify your big rocks, step two is to block out time, and step three is to schedule everything else. These steps are made to help readers work on priority skills. These steps are otherwise known as "The Steps to Success."
The last theme that I learned about from this book is seek first to understand then to be understood. This theme is otherwise known as "The Listening Habit." The chart shows on page 171 that 7% words, 40% tone and feeling and 53% body language is genuine listening. The main part of listening is body language, which means you are looking at them, and you’re reacting by their words. Tone and feeling is how you respond, whether you’re excited or angry. The author stated on page 165, " Listening is the key to communication." To understand what the person is saying you must listen, then you are able to respond. Communication is a key to all relationships in the world.
These are three themes that are possible to find in my book. Being proactive, putting first things first, and seeking first to understand then to be understood are habits teens should work on. I really enjoyed reading this book because of the many lessons that I learned throughout it. Knowing how to put these themes in action, will make you a better person. This book has many life lessons, and I recommend this book to others feeling like they need a new perspective of life.

Chamber of Commerce Essay
* This essay was written for a contest and was about something you want to help your community with. I learned that the town that I live in is very nice, but I can help by doing the three things I talked about. It is interesting how such little things can make a difference in your surroundings. What are three ways you could change your community? This relates to me because I have decided to dedicate some of my free time to help the community.
Do you ever walk around your town and think how pretty it could be? Although Alpine is beautiful, I see trash and dead plants all around town. Giving up four hours a month, which is only one hour a week can help fix your community. “A healthy outside starts from the inside,” Robert Urich. Having a helpful heart can change the view of your town. Three ways to make the town better are picking up trash, placing bottles in recycling bin, and watering the plants and flowers.
Trash makes a town look dirty and unhealthy. I am going to improve my community by bringing trash bags from home and getting help from others. I am willing to spend about one hour a week just picking up all the trash up. By picking up trash on the streets with friends, it will encourage others to either come out and help, or stop putting trash on the ground. This should work because people will see teens trying to make a change and they want to be a part of that great difference. Many people know that trash on the ground can hurt the animals and we count on animals by giving or making us food. I am also hoping to add more trash cans around town so people do not feel so obligated to throw it on the ground. Simply placing trash in cans instead of the ground can make a huge difference.
Recycling is a great habit to get into. I know that in my family we already recycle, but getting the whole town to recycle would be even better. I am willing to give a half hour a week to pick up bottles around the town and recycle them. I will even talk to Alpine schools to get to support recycling. A school can make money by getting their students to place all their empty bottles in a bin. Recycling can help the less use of plastic and also make the town cleaner because the bottles will no longer be placed on the ground. So once again placing something in a bin instead of the ground can benefit the town greatly.
I am willing to give another hour out of my week to water plants around town. After doing all the other services, I will then get a watering can and walk around town and water any dead plants or flowers. We use the plants to help us breathe because they make oxygen. We use the beautiful flowers for the bee’s to make honey, which we use to eat or to sweeten our drinks. Helping these plants and flowers stay alive will make Alpine a beautiful place.
Picking up trash, recycling bottles, and watering plants can make Alpine a prettier town. Now you see how I am going to make a change I hope this inspires you to make a change in your community. Take a eight hours out of your month of 230 or more hours and make a change. Reach out to others and teach them how to make their town prettier.

Poetry WebQuest
*This is my poetry webquest in which I used online to brainstorm and come up with poems. I learned many different types of poems and as demonstrated a "haiku poem." This is interesting because I did not really know that their could so many different types of poems and that I could imagine so easily. When I was writing this I thought "Am I Doing It Right?" Truthfully their is no wrong in poems. These relate to me because I placed myself in a happy and sunny place.
Breeze and sunshine
Musical noise of birds chirping
No worries in life
Smiles and giggles
Brings memories of a
childhood of joy
